On the body of the excavator, you will see letters and numbers representing the excavator model. The models of each brand are also represented differently, and the same brand also has different models. For those who are new to the industry, it may be hard to understand. Today I will give you a brief introduction to the meanings of letters and numbers on common brands of excavator models.
How many parts are the excavator models divided into?
Common excavator brands and models are generally composed of three parts: excavator code (numbers or letters) + tonnage code (numbers) + series code (numbers), or four parts plus some special English codes such as L and LC. . For example:
Komatsu PC-130-7 can be divided into three parts: PC (excavator code) + 130 (13 tons) + 7 (seventh generation).
Komatsu PC240LC-8 can be divided into four parts: PC (excavator code) + 240 (24 tons) + LC (widened and lengthened crawler track) + 8 (eighth generation).
1. Excavator code
The first part of the excavator model is the excavator code. The codes of each manufacturer are naturally different and can be roughly divided into two types. One is the excavator code starting with English letters, which is the case for most brands. For example: Komatsu "PC" means excavator, Hitachi's excavator code is "ZX", Doosan's excavator code is "DH", and Kobelco's excavator code is "SK".
Another type of excavator code is represented by numbers. Of course, it is the famous Caterpillar. Caterpillar's excavators are represented by the number 3, such as the familiar Cat 336, 320D, 313D2, etc. Carter's other product models also start with numbers, such as: "1" for graders, "7" for articulated trucks, "8" for bulldozers, and "9" for loaders.
2. Tonnage code
The second part of the excavator model is the tonnage code. Needless to say, most brands use numbers to express this. Carter's 20 means 20 tons, 36 means 36 tons, and Kobelco, Komatsu, and Hitachi's 200 also means 20 tons. You can understand this at a glance.
3. The last series of codes such as -8, -9, -10
-7, -8, -9, and -10 are often found at the end of the models of domestic excavators and Japanese and Korean excavators. These numbers indicate which generation model of the product, such as Komatsu PC56-7, -7. It represents Komatsu’s 7th generation model, Doosan DH225LC-9, and -9 represents Doosan’s 9th generation model.
-8 and -9 are not available in all brands. For example, the Caterpillar excavator that everyone is familiar with does not have this expression. The D at the end of the Caterpillar model indicates that the excavator is a Caterpillar D series product. , E represents Carter E series products.
4.Special code
Letter L
The letter "L" often appears on the excavator model, which represents the extended crawler track. The purpose is to increase the contact area between the crawler track and the ground. It is generally used in construction conditions with soft ground.
Letter LC
The characters "LC" often included in excavator models indicate that the crawler tracks are lengthened and widened, and the purpose is also to increase the contact area with the ground. For example: Kobelco SK210LC-10, Komatsu PC200LC-8, Doosan DH225LC-9, etc.
Letter H
Among the excavator models of Hitachi Construction Machinery, such as ZX210H-5A, ZX250H-5A, ZX360H-5A, etc., the "H" here means heavy-duty type, which is generally suitable for mining conditions. Among Hitachi Construction Machinery's products, the H-type adopts a slewing platform and lower traveling body with increased strength, and is equipped with a rock bucket and front-end working device as standard.
Letter K
Among Hitachi's excavator product models, such as ZX210K-5A, ZX250K-5A, and Hitachi ZX360K, the "K" here means demolition type, which is specially used for demolition of buildings. The K-type excavator is equipped with a helmet and front protection device to prevent falling debris from falling into the cab, and a walking protection device to prevent metal from entering the track.
Letter W
There are not only crawler excavators, but also wheeled ones. For example, the "W" in Doosan DX210W and Doosan DX60W-9C excavators means wheeled excavators.
